Point & Shoot - what my mother taught me

In my day to day life, I come across little things that make me stop and think about where and how I learnt to do a particular thing.

Like this morning for example, it was a normal morning. Wake up to the sound of the kids playing in their rooms.  Get up, make kindy lunch for Mitchell and pour myself and the little ones a nice warm drink to to start the day.  Drop Mitchell at Kindy, watch him cry for me at the fence as I drive off. (it lasts until I am out of sight and then he is happy).  Arrive home, put Liam down for his morning nap and get stuck into some housework.

Mitchell's favourite sheets
Today it was change sheets day.  I was in the middle of making the beds after stripping them
and I had started tucking the sheets underneath the mattress with a hospital corner.  It was then that I stopped and pondered where I had learnt this and why of why must I do hospital corners every.single.time.  If Quentin makes the bed, I go back and fold the corners my way.  In my eyes, there is only one way. Hospital corners all the way.

Hospital Corners...your sheets stay put with corners like these!

I know exactly where I learnt this and it is one of the many things that my beautiful Mother instilled in me from an early age.  My mum has taught me many things and this is just one of them.  I am sure I will teach my kids too...when they are old enough to make their beds!

What did your mum teach you?....

Heatwave Number ??.... too many to count

This weekend has been a stinker.  and it still is.  Our little weather station outside under the patio shows that it is 39.8 degrees and 10.30am.  Crazy huh - crazy thing is that it said that an hour ago.

Thankfully we have the pool.  Mitchell would live in it if he could.  All day long we hear, "come on guys, lets for swim".  We have so much fun as a family in the pool, it really reminds me of how lucky we are - that we get to spend this time together.  It has been a huge relief from the heat.  That and the water pistols.

We had a lot of events to attend this weekend, it was a reunion weekend.  The only thing is we just didn't make all the planned events.  Saturday was party day for one of Mitchell's little buddy's and Quentin had a high school reunion in the evening - which meant I had a few lovely hours to myself.  Big plans for some Project Life, but lazing on the couch with some chocolate and a few episodes of Revenge was the overall winner.

I'm not too sure what time Quentin came home, but I do know that there was a very sore head the next morning.  It was all self inflicted, with something called a few pints of "Newcastle Brown".

Sunday we were supposed to attend a Uwen/Stoffels Family reunion at a local park, but Quentin wasn't up to it and it was at the wrong time of the day - 12 noon.  Lunchtime.  The hottest part of the day. The boys naptime.  I think it was me making the excuses too.  Oh well, there will always be next year.

It was nice to have a lazy day at home on Sunday - I even had a nap when the boys did.  I must have really needed it.  I'm not a nap during the day kinda girl - not even when the boys were newborn.

The sea breeze is in now and is providing some much needed relief from the stinking hot days we have just had.  Come on Autumn, enough of the hot hot hot weather, just cool it down a notch or two.

P.S My heart goes out to the Eastern States, all the towns currently experiencing flooding. You are in our thoughts. Take care everyone.

Point & Shoot | Curly

Today is cleaning day.  I've needed to clean for the last week, but just haven't had the energy to do it.  Playing with the kids felt much better and more worthwhile.  Yes, the floor was like a sandpit, the dust was piling up just like the washing - but it felt so much more pleasant to be hanging out with the kids rather than hanging out the washing.

We have had a pretty curly week, so I am glad that the weekend had arrived.  We didn't have much planned - and that's the way I like it!

It started with a little home organisation (putting things away where they belong) after the week that was.  A little Father-Son trip to bunnings for more veggie garden supplies, some cement and sand.  We relaxed for the next few hours while to boys had their afternoon sleep and pottered around the house.  Discussing what we were going to plant in the veggie garden, what sort of shade sail we should get for the boys play area.  Then it was off to Nanny & Grandad's for a sleep over!  Yay for us, we were heading to D&P's for a good old BBQ/Drinkies catch up, which had been long over due.

We had a great night at a friend of D's 40th.  I think we finally made it to bed around 2am...yes, 2am.  We were up at 7.30 to pick up the boys from Nanny's, hangovers and all.  I knew my first hangover since having Liam would be difficult, but the hardest part was the lack of sleep.  Thank you Toy Story for the 1.5hr distraction while I slept on the floor next to Mitchell.

This is what a curly week and a relaxed weekend looks like in our household.

Point & Shoot

I wish every weekend could be like this one.

This is the first time I am participating in Sunny & Scout's Point & Shoot. I know it's usually just one or two photos, but I just couldn't pick one...

This was our Saturday morning...

Thanks for looking!
